AIRFLOW CRYOTHERAPY

What is airflow cryotherapy?

Bluewater Vet is proud to offer Singapore’s very first airflow cryotherapy machine, a pioneering device in both the veterinary and human physiotherapy sectors. Airflow cryotherapy is an advanced therapeutic option designed to improve recovery, manage pain, inflammation and swelling, and enhance the comfort of pets. It uses a specialized device to deliver cooled air at a controlled temperature directly to specific areas of the pet’s body. This safe, non-invasive and gentle treatment offers targeted relief and healing for a range of conditions in animals.

15 to 20 minutes

Each session of airflow cryotherapy typically lasts between 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

What conditions can be treated with airflow cryotherapy?

Airflow cryotherapy is highly versatile and can be used to support:

  • Post-surgery rehabilitation

  • Post exercise reduction in swelling and inflammation

  • Management of chronic conditions like arthritis or hip dysplasia

  • Recovery from injuries or strains

How does airflow cryotherapy work?

This process provides numerous therapeutic effects, including:

Reduces Inflammation and Swelling

The cold air constricts blood vessels, alleviating swelling (oedema) and inflammation.

Numbs Pain Receptors

It provides immediate pain relief by desensitizing affected areas, and this pain relief is often long-lasting due to the reduction in inflammation and swelling.

Promotes Healing

Encourages faster recovery from injuries, surgeries, or chronic conditions.

Is airflow cryotherapy painful for pets?

No, airflow cryotherapy is not painful for pets. The cold air is gently applied and well-tolerated by most animals. Many pets find the experience soothing and may even relax during the treatment.

What is the difference between airflow cryotherapy and using ice packs?

Airflow cryotherapy offers several advantages over traditional ice packs:

Precision

Airflow cryotherapy delivers a consistent and controlled temperature to the treated area. Ice packs do not provide even or consistent cooling, as they gradually lose their coldness over time by absorbing the animal’s body heat.

Efficiency and efficacy

The therapy is more effective at penetrating tissues and providing sustained relief.

Comfort

The dry cold air is more comfortable for pets compared to the wet and sometimes heavy nature of ice packs.

Are there any side effects?

Airflow cryotherapy is generally very safe with minimal to no side effects. Some pets may experience slight skin redness in the treated area, but this typically resolves quickly. Always consult your veterinarian to ensure the therapy is appropriate for your pet’s specific needs.
